The city of Portland says it has reached tentative agreements with two public employee unions whose members had threatened to walk off their jobs.
AFSCME Local 189 , which represents more than 1,000 clerical staff and other employees, agreed to a new three-year contract with the city last week .
Combined, Local 189 and the District Council of Trade Unions represent about 1,200 workers, or 16% , of the city's 7,500 -member workforce.
