Questions remain about what level of security clearance the DOGE staff have and whether their interim security clearance gives them the authority to demand access to restricted systems.

DOGE gained access to the Treasury ’s sensitive payments systems and the Office of Personnel Management , the human resources department that includes databases on the personal information of all federal workers.

Musk 's team has access to multiple sensitive internal systems at the Department of Education , the Small Business Administration , the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and plans to access aviation systems.

A coalition of more than a dozen Democratic state attorneys general said they will file a lawsuit to block DOGE access to payment systems containing personal data on Americans .

Allied nations may not want to share intelligence with the U.S. if they think the information could leak, spill into the public domain, or otherwise get lost.
