Jeff Douglas was the face of patriotism in an iconic Molson beer commercial.
The ad has spawned countless spinoffs and covers, from William Simuels to William Shatner .
In just the last month , there’s been a bump of 10 points in both Canadians who say they’re “very proud of their country” and those who have “a deep emotional attachment to Canada ” Even in the resource-rich Conservative heartland there has been a jump.
Douglas : "I think patriotism had kind of become an old-school thing. Not everyone’s into it. I have to admit that even my own sense of patriotism has kind of faded, been battered around" Recreating it with Molson probably couldn't be done, but it could be done.
“I see the greatness of Canada , and the recognition of what we have done and the ugliness that is still there.”.
