Daryl Cloran’s version of A Streetcar Named Desire is running at the Max Bell Theatre until Feb. 23 .

It's a mesmerizing experience that belies the fact Tennessee Williams wrote it almost 80 years ago .

Many themes and insights about intimate partner violence, and the stigma of mental illness, still resonate today .

Everything from Brian Dudkiewicz ’s skeletal set, Bonnie Beecher ’s haunting lighting design and Joelysa Pankanea’s ominous soundscape, to Jessica Oostergo’s period costumes, transport us to a lost time and space somewhere in Tennessee Williams ’ genius imagination. It would be foolish indeed not to board Desire and Cemetery , those quaint old New Orleans streetcars, and take a trip to Elysian Fields for a heavenly night out at the theatre..
