Snake Pass: Could famous driving road close to cars?

Derbyshire County Council has asked for government help to keep Snake Pass open.
The long and winding road was built in 1818 and opened in 1821 .
It was built as a turnpike - or toll road - to connect Sheffield with Manchester .
The road was financially unsuccessful from the start, and it did not make enough money to maintain itself.
Derbyshire County Council says it is increasingly having to resurface Snake Pass following landslips.
But it says it does not have enough money to deal with bigger repairs.
The council has asked the Department for Transport for a "landslips fund" to keep the road open in future.
