O’Shaughnessy Falls is literally a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it kind of place but — and maybe because of that — it’s one of my favourite places to stop.
I wanted to get closer to the high peaks to see if there were any white flags streaming from their peaks.
The area I was heading for would have plenty of snow.
It was warm, too, 5 C on the truck’s dash.
I much prefer prairie to peaks but I gotta admit, this is pretty nice country.
I nearly turned around to head back to the foothills at the gate that shuts off highway access to Highwood Pass but then thought, since I’m already here anyway, I might as well take a look up Smith-Dorrien Trail .
Not only for my pictures but for the climbers, too. I admired their tenacity but even if I were 40 years younger, nope, you would never catch me doing that. I’m more of a prairie climber. And with that, I started heading back to town. The wind hadn’t blown and the snow hadn’t flown but the ice was nice and the sun was bright. And I’ll be back again one of these days . Like I said, I’m a prairie boy. But the mountains are OK, too..
