Women represent half of the US. But they sometimes lack clout in budget and tax talks

Just over 2,400 women are serving in state legislatures across the U.S. , or about 33% of the total.
Only one woman currently serves on the 14 -member Joint Legislative Budget Committee .
Mississippi has the third -lowest percentage of women in its legislature, at 15% , according to the Center for American Women and Politics .
Women hold just over 11% of seats on Mississippi ’s five money committees.
Sen. Marilyn Dondero Loop said there could be areas where female lawmakers might be more likely to put taxpayer money because of their personal connections to the issue.
She said she doesn't approach her work thinking about gender.
Other states also have women in prominent roles.
In Alaska , a Republican woman was one of three co-chairs of the House Finance Committee .
