Sunken Sherman Tanks of D-Day: The Tragic Story of Omaha Beach
57% Informative
The 741st Tank Battalion tried to get a shore at Omaha Beach Sherman on the 6th of June trying to get to the beach.
But the US Navy crews, the coxon's on board the LCTS dropped the ramp. The canvas screens were broken down, they got swamped and then the tanks sunk in about 100 foot of water.
A couple managed to wade ashore and three more got ashore.
This was the trailer that was recovered near the near the wreck where the M4 dozer was pulled out.
I mean, you look at the the condition of the rubber, it looks remarkably like good considering it was in the ocean for 38 years before it was dragged out.
It's something so completely different to the usual stuff that we see here in Normandy , but very much a part of the the D-Day story.
