A less 'clumpy,' more complex universe?

University of Pennsylvania researchers combined data from two major surveys of the universe's evolutionary history and found hints that it may be less clumpy at certain points than previously thought.
Their findings suggest that the universe may have become more complex with advancing age.
The data comes from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope's final data release (DR6) and the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument's ( DESI ) Year 1 .
One hypothesis is that dark energy -- the force thought to drive the universe's accelerating expansion -- could be influencing cosmic structure formation more than previously understood.
Moving forward, the team will work with more powerful telescopes, like the upcoming Simons Observatory , which will refine these measurements with higher precision.
