In the United States , some health experts are referring to the simultaneous spread of these four viruses as a “quademic” In Canada , these four major illnesses are a combination of respiratory illnesses: influenza , respiratory syncytial virus ( RSV ), COVID 19 and norovirus.

While cases of these three respiratory illnesses are high in Canada , there’s another virus on the rise as well: Norovirus, also known as the stomach bug.

The weather conditions in the winter favour the viruses’ ability to transmit.

Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that causes gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach and intestines.

Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, fatigue, a low-grade fever, chills and a headache.

Canada does not release weekly reporting numbers for norovirus.
