Keith Gerein: As roadblocks mount against Vision Zero, can Edmonton keep faith on traffic safety?

69% Informative
There were 26 traffic deaths and 129 serious injury collisions in Edmonton last year — almost identical numbers to 2023 .
But what if I told you that Edmonton ’s annual traffic deaths were 14 , 12 , 16 and 14 , respectively, in the years from 2019 to 2022 ? How is the story portrayed then? Have things become more dangerous out there of late?.
The answer to the Vision Zero goal ultimately depends on our own choices, both in terms of who we elect and how we make decisions when we get behind the wheel.
For many of us in this province, we have never resolved our dual desires for freedom and law and order.
Whether we can get past those perceptions will determine how this goes in the coming years .
