56% Informative
Kiss of the Spider Woman premieres Sunday night at the Sundance Film Festival .
The film is based on a 1976 novel by Argentinian author Manuel Puig .
Director Bill Condon says the movie is "trying to do something different from anything you’ve seen" The movie was financed, cast, shot, and edited in time for a world premiere.
Condon greatly admires both the original Spider Woman film and the stage show.
Condon cut several songs from the stage version to avoid characters “simply breaking out into song” Instead, the film flows between a poignant, realist two -character drama inside a dark prison cell.
“When we were saying goodbye, I couldn’t not cry—I had developed such a strong bond to him and his generosity,” Tonatiuh says.
“We were shooting six to 11 pages a day, which is nuts. It was pretty spectacular," Luna says.
