Construction work on Princess Alexandra will now not start until 2032 at the earliest.

National Audit Office warned target of 40 new hospitals by 2030 target date was likely to be missed.

The watchdog pointed to a number of factors, including delays by the government signing off plans.

The timeline was further complicated by the need to prioritise other hospitals for work, including five built using reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete ( RAAC ) over which there are major safety concerns.
