Winter storm moves into Florida and the Carolinas after dropping record-breaking snow in New Orleans

Heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain reaches into the Deep South as a blast of Arctic air plunges much of the Midwest and the eastern U.S. Hundreds of flights are canceled or switched to remote learning for more than a million students.
The storm dropped up to 5 inches ( 13 centimeters ) of snow just inland and covered in white the sand from Hilton Head Island to the giant Ferris wheel.

More than 132,000 customers were without power across the region Friday morning , according to the NWS .
