Councillor's pitch to assist soccer clubs earns red card after colleagues cry foul

70% Informative
Councillor Gian-Carlo Carra's motion sought to support local sports organizations that are attempting to build indoor facilities.
But a sticking point of Carra ’s proposal was his ask for the city to pilot the program through a “specific and immediate consideration” of Calgary Villains Football Club’s indoor soccer dome.
Carra acknowledged his son plays for the club and that he coaches with the club.
The motion failed a technical review at a meeting, meaning it won’t be voted on at a future council meeting.
Calgary ’s lack of indoor fields has reached “a tipping point” this winter , a CMSA official said.
Calgary only has a handful of indoor facilities to host sanctioned games and tournaments.
“If something is not done here, we’re going to have to start turning kids away from the game,” warned Leslie MacLeod .
