Education technology giant PowerSchool revealed a cybersecurity breach to its customers Jan. 7 .
The company said it discovered the breach Dec. 28 , after customer data from its PowerSchool SIS platform was stolen through the PowerSource support portal.
PowerSchool serves 18,000 customers worldwide, including schools in the U.S. and Canada , managing grades, attendance and personal information for students and teachers.
PowerSchool took nearly two weeks to notify its customers about the breach.
Schools are now scrambling to assess the full extent of the intrusion.
This delay puts students, parents and teachers at heightened risk of cyberattacks and identity theft.
Do you think companies like PowerSchool should face stricter regulations for handling sensitive data?.
