Asteroid Alinda will peak in brightness at a magnitude of 9.4 on Sunday ( Jan. 12 ) It's rare to see such a large object pass this close to Earth .

Alinda is one of the five largest asteroids that will pass within 9.3 million miles ( 15 million km ) of our planet from now until 2200 .

The asteroid will be visible moving through the constellation Gemini , which appears just after dark.
