University of Bristol-led study found smartwatches could help people quit smoking.
Researchers developed software that uses smartwatch motion sensors to identify the typical hand movements of cigarette smoking to help detect a smoking lapse.
If the app detects the person is smoking, the smartwatch delivers a relapse prevention message, just at the moment it is needed.
These methods facilitate robust discrimination between causal exposures that are possible targets for behavioural or therapeutic interventions to prevent cancer (primary prevention) or its progression ( tertiary prevention), from non-causal biomarkers which may nevertheless act as predictive biomarkers (secondary prevention).
