Donald Trump was convicted in May of 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a hush money payment his then-lawyer Michael Cohen paid porn star Stormy Daniels in the closing days of the 2016 presidential election.

Two federal prosecutions have already been dismissed, while the two state cases are stalled.

The change in circumstance is largely due to Trump 's election win, and appeals courts might whittle down the hefty civil judgments.

Trump is on the hook for almost $489 million in a $350 million judgment from a New York judge.

Trump is also facing eight civil suits against him over the Jan. 6, 2021 , riot at the U.S. Capitol .
