Homelessness ranked second at 40 per cent and Canada Post strike in third at 37 per cent .
More than half pointed to the U.S. presidential election as the top global news story for Canadians .
The polling was conducted between Dec. 6 and 10 , with 1,001 Canadians aged 18+ interviewed online.
