Lockheed Martin had an idea for a super transport plane in the 90s. Here's what it would have been like to fly
54% Informative
Lockheed Martin designed the Lockheed Very Large Aeroplane in 1996 .
Designed to be bigger than a 747 , it would have carried more passengers than an A380 .
Would have been able to fly between London and New York , a distance of 3008 nautical miles , but routes over the Pacific would have to land in Hawaii first .
The plane would have a take off weight of 1.4 million or 635 metric tons .
The design was different from the standard aircraft, and Lockheed Martin was not sure how it would fly in the sky.
The project was shelved after it proved to be too much for the company that had only recently moved out of commercial aviation.
Airbus would go ahead to build the A380 , and it would never really be that successful beyond its initial orders.
