He was born in Scotland but now lives in Montreal, Canada. Minnesota 's Shattuck-Saint Mary’s is the reigning champions of the tournament.

The 32 -team tournament runs through Jan. 1 at Max Bell Centre and Seven Chiefs Sportsplex.

Some teams in the mix say they can dethrone the reigning champs.

The Calgary Northstars are among the co-hosts with the most with a 13 -8-0-1-3 record.

The only time the Northstars have won this event was way back in 1987 .

Head coach Marcus Cheng has praised the leadership group of captain Hayden Schollar and assistant captains Everett Merchant and Christopher Wright .
