•Whitehall ‘braced for private schools collapse’ due to fee rises

VAT charge for private school fees is expected to raise 1.8 billion a year.
Treasury estimates it will lead to 37,000 fewer private school pupils in the long term.
About 3,000 children will be taken out of private schools and need a state place before end of year .
The VAT rise in January leaves schools with little option since budgets for this academic year would have been set last summer ’, headmaster Nicholas Pietrek said.
He added parents of children with special educational needs sometimes sent them to private schools because state ones could not make adequate provision.
