Alberta 's Waterton Lakes National Park is remarkably quiet in winter .

Many businesses downtown shops, galleries, most of the restaurants, souvenir stores, etc. board up the windows and put up the “ See You In Spring ,” “Gone to Maui” signs.

All of the hotels and lodges stay open for winter .

Visitors can expect harsh, even violent, displays of Mother Nature from Cameron Lake .

At the end of the Akamina Parkway , you can park at the Little Prairie Day Use area, and walk, ski or snowshoe the easy track-set two kilometres to Cameron Lake . The peaceful setting there will give an entirely different feel of Waterton .
