Researchers have discovered tooth differences among ethnicities, including an apparent feature determined by a gene inherited from Neanderthals.

Teeth can tell us a great deal about human evolution, as well-preserved ancient teeth shed light on milestones such as when we transitioned to cooked food and human tooth sizes began to shrink.

The research could one day aid in diagnosing and treating genetic dental conditions.
