Rep. Nancy Mace , R-S.C., used a slur against the transgender community in a video on social media this month .

Mace accused foster youth advocate James McIntyre of assault after she spoke at an event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of legislation benefiting foster youth.

McIntyre was arrested and has pleaded not guilty to charges of assaulting a government official.

In November , Mace introduced a measure to ban transgender women from using women’s restrooms at the U.S. Capitol .

Mace invoked her own experiences as a victim of rape as part of the reason she introduced the measure.

"I'm not going to stand for a man, you know, someone with a penis, in the women's locker room," Mace said.
