City posts 600-page findings on Bearspaw south feeder main break

78% Informative
A new 600 -page report outlines a series of factors that led to the June 5 failure of the Bearspaw south feeder main.
Microcracking of the outer mortar layer of the pipe allowed soil to contact and corrode the inner pipe’s reinforcement wires, causing 200 of them to snap.
The incident led to a state of local emergency and nearly four months of outdoor water restrictions across Calgary .
Little has been revealed since then, other than in late July , when the city named University of Calgary president Dr. Ed McCauley , TransMountain Corp. board chair Dawn Farrell and ATCO Energy Systems chief operating officer Wayne Stensby as the three -person “advisory group” that will select the chair of the panel that will undertake that review. A chair has yet to be named publicly..
