•Obit: Pioneering Windsor business leader, philanthropist Michael Solcz 'truly one-of-a-kind'
68% Informative
Michael Solcz , the visionary founder of Valiant Corporation , has died at the age of 93 .
Solcz dedicated nearly 50 years to growing Valiant Machine and Tool into a global manufacturing firm.
He dedicated his life to helping others by donating millions to local charities.
The decision to keep the company’s headquarters in Windsor-Essex marks his commitment to the region.
The Solcz Family Foundation unveiled the largest private charitable donation in Windsor-Essex history of $15 million to the planned regional acute care hospital in September .
The donation will support a cutting-edge birthing and pediatric care centre, along with a pediatric emergency area within the emergency department.
Despite that generosity, Solcz “didn’t like the limelight,” said Carol Derbyshire , former executive director or the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County .
