Most Belarusians are denied permission to stay in Ukraine after leaving the army because they do not meet the requirements for a residence permit.
Many of the veterans relocate to an EU country, usually Poland , where they can receive asylum.
The Association of Belarusian Volunteers registered in Poland registered in 2023 includes as many as 200 fighters.
New law offers permits for non-Ukrainians who fight for Ukraine will be able to obtain a residence permit, even if their passports have expired.
