John C. McLagan , J.M. O’Brien and John William Gunn started the Vancouver Daily World in 1888 .
The World ran a front-page story on Gunn skipping town, saying he was headed to San Francisco .
Gunn didn’t go to the U.S. with some of the World ’s money, but he had taken a job at another newspaper in Snohomish County .
McLagan died on April 10, 1901 at 62 after a long illness.
