Housing and Planning Minister Matthew Pennycook recently said that the shortage of planners “keeps [him] up at night” The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s plans for housing include the recruitment of 300 new graduate planning officers as a headline offer.

It would make far more sense and be far more effective to institute a broader programme of reform within public sector planning.
