Controversial U.S. Supreme Court decision threatens the country’s inland wetlands with new development, study says

North Carolina alone stands to lose up to 1 million hectares ( 2.4 million acres ) of inland wetlands.
The wetlands most in jeopardy are those that dry out during warmer months , such as bogs, wet meadows and areas along seasonal streams.
Drier wetlands may also lose protections: adding flooded areas would open up 61 percent of wetlands to development.
