There was a gorgeous prismatic cloud sitting almost directly over the grain bins and livestock pens that complemented the soft blues of the snowy landscape around it.
Around Indus and Dalemead it coated everything from the tallest poplars to the lowest grass.
The Bow River valley below Carseland was, strangely, mist-free, maybe because of a slight temperature inversion.
But as I crossed the ridge between the Bow and the Arrowwood Creek basins an interesting phenomenon presented itself.
Looking southwest toward Brant and Ensign I could see the Porcupine Hills and the mountains beyond as well as the frosty fields in front of me.
But in between lay a blanket of mist much thicker than the one to the north.
It spread out table-top flat, the partly cloudy sky above and the mountain peaks 80 km away in clear air while everything below sat covered in a milky blue haze.
