•EU takes the lead in the search for new mpox treatments

As the monkeypox virus continues to pose a threat to global health, EU -funded researchers are working together with international partners to manage the disease and protect the most vulnerable.
There is so far only one approved treatment for mpox, but its approval is based on animal studies only.
VERDI research team unites 30 research centres of excellence in Europe , the USA , Africa , the Caribbean , the Middle East and Southeast Asia .
The VERDI project is based in the University of Padua and Penta Foundation , with scientific coordination shared between University College London and University Padua.
It is expected that more concrete results will come.
