•Employment rights bill ‘not fit for purpose and could lower wages’

Regulatory Policy Committee ( RPC ) said the proposals lacked evidence to support the problem being addressed’ It warned that the estimated 5 billion a year cost of the rules could be an underestimate that would be paid for through lower wage growth.
The bill includes protections against unfair dismissal from the first day , a right to guaranteed hours and flexible working by default.
“These initial, indicative assessments of the primary legislation represent the best estimate of likely impact at this stage. However, we intend to refine our analysis and conduct further assessment as the bill progresses — working with experts and businesses.”.
