On February 5, 1958 , an F-86 fighter plane collided with a B-47 bomber carrying a thermonuclear bomb.
The Air Force claimed the weapon wasn't fully assembled and "there was no danger of an explosion or radioactivity" The bomb was no threat to be set off since plutonium was separate from the bomb casing and the explosives that caused the implosion.
