A new detector at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility has successfully observed neutrons in configurations and at angles where they had previously remained undetected.
Neutrons usually scatter at a 40-degree angle, which is outside the detection range of CLAS and CLAS12.
The only problem faced initially was proton contamination due to which it sometimes failed to prevent protons from taking part in neutron measurements.
