•io9 caught up with Wicked director Jon M. Chu to talk about adapting the song 'Defying Gravity' to the big screen
48% Informative
Director Jon M. Chu had to be extra careful with adapting the Wicked song to the movie.
He wanted to be able to live up to the hype of the song but also make sure it fit in this movie.
Chu saw the show in 2003 months before it came to Broadway and keyed into one moment in particular.
The song gives the film a solid ending with Elphaba embracing her powers and Galinda choosing her path.
The story will then continue next year and, while it’s not quite “ Defying Gravity ,” Part Two does have a similarly epic song: “ For Good” Wicked Part One is now in theaters.
