•Moraine Road RV dwellers given brief eviction reprieve, alternate location
66% Informative
A group of Calgarians living in their RVs say they’ve been given a short reprieve from eviction from a northeast street and an alternate site to park their vehicles.
Vic LaRock says the group feels betrayed by the city, particularly Ward 10 Coun. Andre Chabot , who they insist granted them an exemption earlier this fall from eviction until a more permanent location is found.
The city and Calgary Parking Authority confirmed eviction had been delayed due to the weather, but added the group should be ready to honour the eviction notice.
“If you provide something for free, people will take advantage, so there has to be some sort of entry level qualification and possibly a fee associated with it to do some cost recovery.” He said the location would have to be in another industrial area where they’d be minimal disruption. -with files from Scott Strasser .
