Detroit -based brands landed three vehicles among the nine finalists for the North American car, truck and SUV of the year .
Electrified vehicles continue to win plaudits, as two of nine finalists are powered purely by electricity.
Seven either offer hybrid versions or are built only in hybrid gasoline-electric form.
The 2025 winner will be revealed at the Detroit Auto Show , Jan. 10 at Huntington Place convention center.
