There are high hopes that AI can spring this growth trap and solve the UK ’s productivity problem.
The economy needs to grow faster so the government has the money to invest in economic growth.
But there is scant evidence on AI use, particularly when it comes to the newer generative models.
Diane Coyle is Professor of Public Policy at the University of Cambridge and the Productivity Institute .
Most firms responding said that AI use to date had had no impact on metrics like profits, turnover, or indeed workforce size.
And when asked about barriers to taking up AI tools, as well as standard constraints such as financing and skills, “lack of information” about the technology featured prominently.
