Indigenous Services Canada removed 1,100 organizations from Indigenous -owned businesses that were not eligible for a multi-billion-dollar procurement program that has been criticized for lax oversight and loose rules.

The Procurement Strategy for Indigenous Business was set up in the late 1990s to help First Nations , Métis and Inuit companies compete for federal work.
