Syracuse airport officials are speeding up plans to build a major terminal expansion and a new parking garage to handle an increase in passenger traffic.
Planning has started for a terminal expansion that would include 19 all-new gates that would eventually replace all the current ones.
The $1.1 billion plan is in the early stages, airport director Jason Terreri said.
The airport’s new terminal would be a more linear design instead of the current, somewhat confusing U shape.
The current south (A) and north (B) concourses would be dismantled in stages as the new terminal is built.
The new parking garage will have pedestrian walkways that allow travelers to walk directly to the TSA security checkpoint on the second floor of the terminal.
