Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick have signaled a new willingness to potentially scale back Texas border security spending.

Abbott says Texas will have to continue its border security measures as a “stopgap effort” during the time it takes Trump to implement his policies.

Patrick also said that Trump ’s victory could mean shifting spending priorities for the state.

”So if it goes away, it's a penny saved for all of us in Texas who pay taxes and saw it more as political grandstanding.” Disclosure: Rice University has been a financial supporter of The Texas Tribune , a nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization that is funded in part by donations from members, foundations and corporate sponsors.
