The number of political prisoners in Azerbaijan has reached more than 300 for the first time since the early 2000s .

Rights groups have called for a review of how countries are selected to host the COP29 climate summit.

The Azerbaijani government rejects the claims and says the government holds no political prisoners.

The UN does allow activists to protest at COP and in response the UNFCCC said: "This year ’s Host Country Agreement for the first time includes provisions on the protection of human rights" But Emin Huseynov thinks the international community has largely “given up” on this issue.
