Aussie men are struggling with information and support for their transition to fatherhood

Greater focus is needed in clinical practice, antenatal services, and research on men’s unique experiences of the perinatal period.

Transition to fatherhood can be a stressful and isolating experience, say researchers.

Fathers said they often felt ill prepared for the exhaustion and new responsibilities prompted by the arrival of a new baby.

They add: “It is clear that fathers require equal emotional and practical support to mothers during this period, and therefore it is important that future tailored support is provided and that fathers are not considered a forgotten entity’, [so] creating a more positive transition and parenting experience.”.
