Susan Pollitt , 77 , died after a drain was mistakenly left in her abdomen for 21 hours .

Her husband Roy Pollitt did not know his wife was being treated by a physician associate.

He believes she would have lived if the NHS had not used "cheap labour" in her care.

Inquest concluded Mrs Pollitt's death was caused by an "unnecessary medical procedure contributed to by neglect".

Lack of supervision for PAs has been a "key feature" in recent high-profile cases, says Mr Marks .

Academy of Royal Colleges has also called for an independent review into the use of associates.

Department of Health and Social Care says it is working with NHS to ensure PAs are supporting doctors.
