A leg bone from a fossil site in Colombia has been identified as a new terror bird.

It would have topped 8 feet ( 2.5 meters ) in height and weighed about 344 pounds ( 156 kilograms ) It was slightly taller than a terror bird from what’s now Brazil called Paraphysornis brasiliensis.

The discovery in Colombia suggests terror birds could thrive in diverse habitats.

Researchers hope to find more parts of the skeleton to better analyze the body size of this animal and the evolution of the whole terror bird group.

“I think we are still far from answering what caused their extinction. Because everything about terror birds is fascinating,” Degrange said.
