Reigniting one of college football's best rivalries in BYU vs. Utah

BYU-Utah is the most intense rivalry game in college football.

The first meeting took place in 1896 , and for most of its history, it was played as a conference game.

The schools moved as a pair to the Skyline Athletic Conference ( 1938 ) and the WAC ( 1962 ) before the Pac-12 pried Utah away before the 2011 season .

Utah joined the Big 12, reuniting the Utes and Cougars as conference rivals once again.

Utah fans rushed the field three times during and after the Utes' 24-21 upset of then-No. 25 BYU in 2012 .

In 1999 , a BYU fan came over the railing from the stands and attempted to tackle a male Utah cheerleader.

In 2001 , BYU took a 10 -0 record into the game in Provo and trailed 21-10 with 3:30 to play before Luke Staley scored two touchdowns.

BYU and Utah meet for the first time in four years after moving to the Big 12.

The rivalry has been hit and miss in the past several years .

The Utes and BYU moved to the Pac-12 in 2011 , but it's been infrequent in recent years .
