City hall committee hears update on water loss review

City of Calgary is reviewing its water system efficiency to help inform its next off-site levy bylaw update in 2026 .

Calgary lost billions of litres of treated water annually due to leaky pipe connections.

Council directed administration to engage a third -party engineering firm to review the city’s water use trends and efficiency.

AECOM has been retained as the consultant to complete the independent review.

The new bylaw included an adjusted levy rate of $ 609,000 per hectare.
